ISO 22000 Vs FSSC 22000 Certification: What Your Business Needs

There are many food safety management systems around the world, but only those that show excellence in terms of implementation and auditing are exactly what your organization needs. Initially, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) with its globally accepted standards became the most logical choice to develop an international food safety management standard. ISO 22000 made its inroads in the year 2005 and was welcomed by hundreds of companies around the world in a short period of time. The only setback to this standard was that it did not make it to the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) list which soon became an important criteria for acceptance by many major retailers. The GFSI benchmarking scheme is included in FSSC 22000. FSSC 22000 certification is a judicious combination of the regulations of the PRP document, the PAS 220 document and the ISO 22000 standard. So, naturally, any company that wishes to register under FSSC 22000 certification will have to implement the requirements of ISO 22000, as well as the PRP programs in PAS 220. The FSSC 22000 standard applies only to food manufacturers, while other organizations in the food chain will need to continue. implement ISO 22000.
