Taken during pregnancy: Nurofen should not be taken during pregnancy unless you are nursing. Fourth Trimester (the last trimester) – Nurofen may not work as well or be safe for you if you are taking nurofen to relieve migraine headaches or menstrual pain. Nurofen contains acetaminophen, which can affect your blood pressure and reduce blood flow to your uterus and ovaries. If you are taking nurofen to treat a headache, make sure to keep other medications (prescription pain killers) and the headache medication in the refrigerator. You may want to call your primary care provider first to make sure your medications are compatible.

If you are having any kind of fever, nasal congestion, itching or swelling in the affected area, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately. Some oral administration of NSAIDs can cause serious or fatal side effects including aspiration pneumonia, severe pulmonary embolism and stroke. Your healthcare provider will likely advise you to avoid any additional NSAIDs unless otherwise ordered by your doctor. It is not known to be safe for children or pregnant women while using oral administration of nurofen

If you are breast feeding and taking NSAIDS, it is known to increase the risk of drug interactions with the mother’s breast milk. If you are breast feeding and taking NSAIDS, you should avoid the nsaids and switch to another NSAID, quinolone antibiotics or cyclosporine if your doctor recommends. If you are taking an NSAID and you are experiencing an abnormal headache, dizziness or weakness, make sure to contact your healthcare provider. Some side effects of nsaids, including increased risk of infections and stomach ulcers, and increased risk of bleeding are higher with quinolone antibiotics.
