Shah Rukh Khan presents his film “Om Shanti Om” at the BERLINALE – Berlin Filmfest 2008

Hours before the film starts, hundreds of fans are standing on the red carpet in front of the International cinema in Berlin. You can see them smile and hear them sing songs; they are excited and can’t wait to see their favorite actor, Shah Rukh Khan. He is in Berlin to present his latest film “Om Shanti Om”. Unlike other countries like Canada, Britain, or the US, you don’t find many people with an Indian background there.

The fans here, most of them are girls or women, they are from all over Europe and came only to Berlin to support Shah Rukh Khan and his movie, show him how much he is loved in Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Austria and many more countries. .

When she arrived on the red carpet, the excitement was overflowing. She takes the time to greet her fans, write autographs, pose for photos. She even gives away some tickets to fans who don’t have any and it makes them incredibly happy. Inside the cinema, the audience is clearly waiting for him: the vibes are positive and people are ready to have a real party while watching “Om Shanti Om”, then after an hour delay he is there. Standing ovations, shouts, big applause and a happy and smiling Shah Rukh Khan. He speaks a few words-he responds with his well-known humor to a lady who yells “I love you” at him that they are getting married later, when he finishes his work here. He then promises to come back later after the movie and says that he hopes people will still like it after seeing it. The film begins: applause and shouts again. This is how it is throughout the projection.

Parts of the dialogues with the actors are spoken out loud by most of the audience, and during rhythmic songs there is clapping and loud chanting. It’s really amazing! The public is celebrating ‘Om Shanti Om’ in a big way.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan turns to his fans outside the theater and says “Thank you” to each person present and shakes hands. What an outstanding artist that he cares so much about his fans.

After the credits, the applause and shouts are as loud as after a rock concert, and there he is again with a big smile and a short question and answer session began. She answers the questions with her sense of humor but also with some philosophical reflections on acting and her work. One thing is for sure: she is leaving her fans and the media alike with a warm feeling in her hearts and souls. Shah Rukh Khan is a very special human being and actor, that’s for sure.

That it is very special he demonstrates again on Sunday at the Hebbel-Theater. He is invited to a conference on “Love International” together with Maria Schrader, German actress and director, and Nigerian actress Kate Henshaw-Nuttall, hosted by Dorothee Wenner. From early in the morning, fans wait outside the theater for only Shah Rukh Khan. Unfortunately, most of them don’t have tickets to the conference. Maybe there will be return tickets? That’s what everyone here expects. Some of them get lucky and get tickets, they are in heaven. Then the black limousine arrives, and it heads straight to the backstage entrance, with no time for autographs and no chance to see Shah Rukh Khan. This is a big disappointment, but there is still hope to see it later. The conference ends and the actor gets into the limousine at the backstage entrance, and comes out again in front of the theater.

“This is how we know our Shah Rukh,” say many of the fans. He addresses everyone along the barriers on Stresemanstrasse, which is now closed, people on the public bus come to the windows to see what is happening outside, and Shah Rukh Khan with a smile writes hundreds and hundreds of autographs, is hugging his fans and giving them kisses on the cheeks. An hour later he leaves with an unforgettable smile.

Fans are happy and sad at the same time, happy that he shows them so much affection and warmth and sad that he is gone. What an amazing and unforgettable weekend in Berlin!
