J Elwood Davis is a much loved and highly respected poet in today’s world of poetry. Known primarily to other poets as “Raindance”, having been raised harshly by drunken parents, he lived in children’s homes and later became a Marine serving in Vietnam. The experience of these three events really gave him an A1 honors degree in life itself. Having found great love for God and understanding of others by living life itself now in her later years, she has found a great release from all her thoughts of experiencing painful abandonment, of seeing the atrocities of life turning into a great belief in spiritual love and eternal life, all of which is reflected in her writing of poetry.

Jim always says “I’m not a poet, I’m a rhymer” when thinking of the great poets of the past and not wanting to put himself in his esteemed league, but as his editor, friend, and yes, one of his biggest fans, I call him a POET as does everyone who has read him. So it is no wonder that I can write with the utmost sincerity and admiration about him and his ‘Words of love, life and understanding of life which he has written in Rhyme’ The Blue Collar Scholar is a book that will move and delight even those men who say they are not lovers of poetry… Just reading a few pages of this book will see your thoughts change so that you want to read more… War will be about reading and all who have found God by being desperate, lost, scared and frightened will also relate deeply.

It is a book by a working man destined to touch every other working-class person, but I know that his fellow scholars will also find a great release of understanding through God’s love. All poems in my opinion as a poet and editor… but the one titled ‘UNPAID BILLS’ about never forgetting to help vets is one that touched me the most and I always remember.

Another is just a short ditty of advice saying that all we have to give our children is, as the title says, ROOTS and WINGS’ Roots means a good firm foundation of parental love to build on and Wings to allow them the freedom to fly when they are ready to leave the nest/home…
